On Thursday a man in China was sentenced to death for producing and selling contaminated milk. Zhang Yujun was convicted of endangering public security and given the death penalty by a court in northern China.
Apparently he ran a workshop that illegally put melamine into baby milk powder to boost its protein content.
Tian Wenhua, 66, who was chairperson of the Sanlu company, which was 43% owned by Fonterra, was sentenced to life in prison.
6 babies were killed and More than 300 000 children were sickened by dairy products laced with the industrial chemical melamine , more than five times the original figure.Personally I think these are harsh sentences. I can't decide whether they are fair or not. It really comes down to drawing the line, which crimes deserve death? Then again, they did almost commit genocide.
