View Stored Passwords on Firefox

Today as I was going through my Firefox options I noticed the most dodgiest "feature" ever in my browsing history. You can view all of your stored passwords on Firefox. It is quite easy.

Go to Tools => Options => Security tab => click saved passwords => click show passwords

I know you're trying it right now...

Mozilla sees this as a feature for people who constantly forget their passwords. I personally don't see any use to this as it is already "remembered". The site, your user name and your password is listed, canceling out all guessing as to where and how to get my online accounts.

If you share a computer with anyone, it is recommended that you use a master password. By default Firefox does not use a master password. After you have defined a master password, you will be prompted to enter it whenever Firefox needs to access your stored passwords. Note that this password only has to be entered once in a session. What if you forget Firefox open?

I still find this problematic as this means only one person may use "remember" my password for a specific computer. Just because I'm willing to "remember" my password does not mean I want people to view it,making it easy to save as a list and reuse or distribute.

I know I voted Firefox in our last poll, but I'm moving over to Chrome right away.

  2. You can do the same thing in Chrome...

Options -> Personal Stuff -> Show Saved Passwords.

  3. There is even a better way to see all the passwords: ChromePass

ChromePass is a small password recovery tool that allows you to view the user names and passwords stored by Google Chrome Web browser. For each password entry, the following information is displayed: Origin URL, Action URL, User Name Field, Password Field, User Name, Password, and Created Time.
