Flight of the Conchords is a Grammy Award-winning New Zealand comedy duo composed of Jemaine Clement(left) and Bret McKenzie(right), AKA Rhymenoceros (McKenzie) & Hiphopopotamus (Clement). They were formerly known as New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo a capella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo. The group uses a combination of characterisation, witty observation and acoustic folk guitars. The duo's comedy and music became the basis of a BBC radio series and then an American television series, which premiered in 2007, also called Flight of the Conchords.
Their cd as seen below, is quite the laugh. Most of their songs can be streamed on their myspace page. I suggest listening to Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros, The Most Beautiful Girl(In The Room), Robots and Business Time.
Some of my favourite lyrics are "You're so beautiful. You could be a waitress. You're so beautiful. You could be a air hostess in the 60s." , "Ain't no party like my nana's tea party. Hey-ho", "Girl, tonight we're gonna make love. You know how I know, baby? Cause it's Wednesday." and "The humans are dead.(I noticed, they're dead.)We used poisonous gases,(With traces of lead)And we poisoned their asses.(Actually, Their lungs.)"
In early 2009, Flight of the Conchords will be releasing their second full-length studio album. It will feature around 15 songs. Out of those 15, ten of those songs will be featured in the second season of their television series.
They are also quite popular on YouTube, most of the videos being live performances. This only supports the fact they are good. The difference between brilliant and fake musicians is their live performances.
They do have a homepage, but unfortunately it is very out dated. The last post was in 2006. If you want to know the latest news or where their next performance is I would strongly suggest to rather go to the myspace page. It is updated up until May 2009.
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
